I cannot answer "yes" or "no". It depends on the groups you listen to.
You need to know that music is a topic that divides many Christians. It is very difficult to draw a line between good and bad music.
I personally think we shouldn’t condemn music like Rap or Reggae. We should rather evaluate each group and determine whether it has a positive influence on us or not. There is music we would actually love to listen to, because it really sounds good. So we will have to be very honest to ourselves and in spite of that ask: "Which message does it contain?"
I hope you are aware of the many dangers of modern music.

-
Some groups are satanic, they openly worship the devil. They usually have satanic symbols on their CD cover.
-
Other groups promote cults and Eastern religions. Unfortunately Bob Marley and many reggae groups have promoted an Ethiopian religion called rastafarianism. You need to watch out; They are not simply neutral.
-
Some groups talk about sex, either openly like many disco groups, or in a subtle way. What these groups mean when they sing about love is as wrong as the picture we get of it when we watch TV.
-
Then you have groups that have a total disregard for human life and encourage people to take drugs or even commit suicide.
-
Some other groups encourage rebellion. That is often a problem in rap music.
Please understand that I am not saying that all reggae or rap music is bad. I just want you to realize that in some cases it is. You need to be extremely careful. This is a time when your values and life style are being formed. Watch out! If you don’t think about it and form your opinions, then someone else will do it for you! Putting yourself under bad influence could be disastrous. Remember: The things you spend the most of your time with, will rule over you.
God created music and loves it. He wants us to enjoy it.
Remember David. He used to play the harp when he was young. He served his king with his musical talents (1 Samuel 16:23). When he himself was king, he continued writing songs and, towards the end of his life, decided to form an orchestra of 4000 musicians (1 Chronicles 23:4-5)! At that time, music was often loud with percussion (2 Chronicles 30:21).
Read Psalm 150 - the people of God were encouraged to worship Him with all kinds of instruments.
But the Bible shows us that music can also be used to manipulate dangerously. Read Daniel 3 and see how a bad king used the same instruments to push people to idolatry.
In Bible times music was used for worship but also for evil. So it can be nowadays.
There is good contemporary Christian music available. You can ask Christian friends or a local church about it. But you may want to listen to secular music sometimes.
Let us think about what you should do before buying and listening to a CD.
-
Examine the CD cover attentively. Sometimes the name of the group tells you a lot.
-
Watch out for satanic symbols, suggestive pictures, etc.
-
Read the lyrics - nowadays they are easily available on Internet.
-
Then think about the people who listen to that kind of music: does it make them aggressive or depressive?
-
Finally don’t forget to ask for advice from your parents. I know their tastes are probably different from yours! Try to talk with them about this so that they can guide you. They can help you listen to music that will bring peace and joy in your life.
Read Ephesians 5:8-11. Who are the children of the light? What should they do? How does this apply to music?
Always consider: What do you allow to get into your mind through your ears?
