An Argument
Mark 9:33-35

Jesus (God the Son) and His disciples (friends, called “the twelve”) walked to the town of Capernaum [kuh-PURR-nay-uhm].

33 And they came to Capernaum. And when he was in the house he asked them, “What were you discussing on the way?” 34 But they kept silent, for on the way they had argued with one another about who was the greatest. 35 And he sat down and called the twelve. And he said to them, “If anyone would be first, he must be last of all and servant of all.”

The 12 disciples argued about who was the greatest. Jesus told them that true followers of His should put other people first.

Think!

Do you ever think you are more important than others? Jesus wants you to put other people first. How can you show others they are important to you?

Choose one way you will put someone else first this week:

▸ Let someone go ahead of you in line.

▸ Do a job at home before you are asked to do it.

▸ Tell someone he or she did a good job.

You can pray like this:

Dear God, thank you that Jesus served us by dying for our sin. Please help me want to serve others. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
