Mocking Jesus
Mark 15:29-31

Jesus was dying on the cross.

²⁹ And those who passed by derided him, wagging their heads and saying, “Aha! You who would destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days, ³⁰ save yourself, and come down from the cross!” ³¹ So also the chief priests with the scribes mocked him to one another, saying, “He saved others; he can’t save himself.”

The people who made fun of Jesus did not believe He was God’s Son. They did not understand that God planned for Him to die. He was taking the punishment for sin so that others could be saved, including those who were making fun of Him.

Think!

Some people still mock God. They make fun of Him in movies or TV shows. Maybe some mock God in your school or even in your family. They don’t believe Jesus is God’s Son and make fun of those who do. But God’s Word says one day “every knee should bow” and “every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord” (Philippians 2:10-11). Pray that they might see and believe the truth.

Dear God, please help those who mock you to hear and believe the truth. Help them believe in you. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
