Mark 15:34 + 37

Jesus had hung on the cross for six hours.

³⁴ And at the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, “Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?” which means, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” ³⁷ And Jesus uttered a loud cry and breathed his last.

As Jesus died on the cross, He spoke the words in the verses you read today. They are written in the language Jesus spoke.

Think!

The punishment for sin is to be separated from God. As Jesus died, He took that punishment for you. The sin of every person in the world was put on Jesus. God the Father turned away from His Son. For the first time ever, Jesus was separated from the Father. What a terrible price Jesus paid so you could be forgiven. Have you thanked Him today for doing that for you?
